About This Course

Marine Biomaterials explores the largely untapped potential of the ocean as a source of advanced materials. You study the major marine-derived biomaterials — chitin and chitosan from crustaceans, collagen and gelatin from fish, alginate from seaweed, and bioactive compounds from sponges and algae — and how they are extracted and processed. The course connects their structure and properties to real applications in tissue engineering, wound healing, drug delivery and food and packaging, alongside the sustainability case for valorising marine waste. You finish able to evaluate a marine biomaterial for a given use. A verified e-Certificate of competency and e-Marksheet from the Deep Science & Technology Consortium.
